9 Skin Care Myths You Should Know About

Skin Care MythsTaking care of your skin is one of the best things you can do for your body. Unfortunately not everything you hear you should do for your skin is good for your skin. There is a lot of bad advice when it comes to taking care of your skin.  Debunking these skin care myths can help you to ensure that you are taking the steps that you need to, to really protect your skin.

9 Skin Care Myths You Should Know About To Protect Your Skin

Myth # 1 is related to how you wash your face. Most people have been taught that you wash, tone then moisturize but the experts say that you can wash, forget the toning and moisturize. The three step routine that you believe you are supposed to follow is really a two-step routine. Using a toner to control oily skin actually has a boomerang effect. Your skin will actually produce more oil in response to using the toner.

Myth # 2 is also related to washing your face. How many times a day are you cleansing your face? If you are like most people you are using a cleanser 2 times a day. Typically in the morning and before bed. According to the expert’s 1 time a day is enough. You should only cleanse your face before bed at night.

Myth # 3 – More is more. A lot of people believe that if the directions on a product say to use a “dime” sized amount of the product and they use a “quarter” sized amount of the product then they are going to get better results. Follow directions, more is not necessarily better.

Myth # 4 - Again with more is more belief. A lot of people think if you leave a mask on all night that you get added benefits. There is no indication that more is more. Follow the directions.

Myth # 5 - Foundation with SPF is enough! Foundation with SPF is not likely enough protection from the sun. It is strongly recommended that if you are going to be out in the sun that you use a sunblock in addition to your foundation with SPF.

Myth # 6 - Retinol should be applied twice a day. This is another case of more is not more. Using more wrinkle cream then what is directed can lead to break outs, dry skin and red irritated skin. Follow the directions.

Myth # 7- If a  works for the majority of people it will work for you. In a perfect world skin care products that work for the majority would also work for you but everyone has different skin and just because something works for your friend it does not mean it will work for you. There is no one size fits all when it comes to skin care. You need to use skin care products that are geared toward your type of skin.

Myth # 8 - Removing blackheads should be accomplished by extraction. Extracting blackheads by squeezing is not the best way to get rid of blackheads. Gentle chemical peels are far more effective. When you squeeze out a black head your pore will just fill back up with oils creating another black head. Use retinol and gentle acid peels can help to keep your skin glowing and free of blackheads.

Myth # 9 - Scrubs will reveal the fresh, new skin and get your skin deep down clean. Scrubs are not really necessary and they can easily dry your skin out which has a boomerang effect. Your skin will actually produce more oil to compensate. Skin actually can exfoliate itself. Scrubs are not a good choice for your skin.
